If you’ve ever paid a visit to Reese Witherspoon’s Instagram, then chances are you’ve gotten a glimpse of the star’s look-alike daughter, Ava Phillippe. Shared with ex Ryan Phillippe, Reese had Ava when she was 23 years old, two years after meeting Ryan on the set of 1999’s Cruel Intentions...and Ava has been receiving comments about how much she resembles her famous mom ever since.
When asked how Ava feels about her striking resemblance to Reese during a 2021 interview with InStyle, Reese said, “I love being mistaken for her because it makes me feel so young. I’m so proud of her. She really rolls with it. I’m sure it’s not easy looking exactly like your mother.”
Tbh, Reese’s sons Deacon (who she shares with Ryan) and Tennessee (who she welcomed with ex-husband Jim Toth) also look like their A-list mother—but neither as much as Ava does! For more on Reese Witherspoon’s model/actor daughter, keep scrolling for some fun facts.
She was named for a Hollywood iconWhile Ava’s middle name, Elizabeth, was chosen in honor of her maternal grandmother, her first name was inspired by Golden Age of Hollywood star Ava Gardner.
“My daughter’s name is Ava, like Ava Gardner,” her dad explained during a 2008 interview with Jay Leno (per People), “because to me she was the only woman who could break Sinatra. So the idea of that name to me is very classy and strong.”
She took part in the Bal des DébutantesAlso known as the “Nepo Baby Met Gala,” Ava attended the notorious Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris in 2017, making her official ~debut into society~.
After graduating high school in 2018, Ava enrolled at University of California, Berkeley, where she studied social welfare and graduated in 2022. However, Reese had a pretty hard time with her daughter leaving home, as she told Ellen DeGeneres during a 2019 appearance on her show.
“It’s weird when your children go away to college. It’s hard,” Reese said. “And I never imagined how it felt for my mom. I might’ve gone into her empty room, laid down on her bed, and cried when she went to college. But it’s okay, she’s coming back. Apparently, they come back, right? I thought she’d be gone.”
She’s starring in an upcoming movieAva first made her acting debut in a 2025 episode of Doctor Odyssey, and in December of that year, she wrapped filming on her first film, Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me. Directed by Tommy Dorfman and based on Mariko Tamaki’s graphic novel of the same name, Ava plays the titular Laura in the movie, while Sam Morelos costars as Freddie.
No premiere date has been announced yet, but I, for one, will be sat!
She appeared in a Role Model music videoIn addition to acting, Ava has done her fair share of modeling over the years. She has partnered with brands like Away, Chanel Beauty, Dior Beauty, Ivy Park, Pat McGrath Labs, and Aerie, and she even appeared in Role Model’s music video for “Look at That Woman.” See if you can spot her:
Ava first opened up about her sexuality during a January 2022 “Ask Me Anything” on her Instagram Stories, where she responded to a fan who asked, “do u like boys or girls” with: “I’m attracted to… people! (Gender is whatever).”

She then revisited her comment two-and-a-half years later during Pride Month in an Instagram post, writing, “Once upon a time, some gal on the internet said ‘gender is whatever’ in reference to her own sexuality. Many took her words out of context, but she knew what she meant. Anyways, this is her posting for the first day of pride month 2024.”
Ava hard-launched her relationship with musician Dakota Brubaker back in December 2024 with a (since-deleted) pic on Instagram. Then, the following June, they made their red carpet debut:

However, Ava and Dakota (who, as fans pointed out, looks an awful lot like Ava’s dad Ryan...) have since deleted all their Instagram photos and most of their TikTok vids together, including the below gem:
So...it seems they might be over (or, at least, have decided to keep their relationship more private).
