Mazi and Suzi Tros, both in Notting Hill, are two of the best Greek restaurants in London, and this spring, they’re about to be joined by a third spot, only a little further east than W8. Owners Christina Mouratoglou and Adrien Carré have chosen Mayfair for their latest project Maza, which’ll channel the spirit of a 1980s Athenian taverna.
The 90-cover restaurant will feature an open fire kitchen with a counter, with a vinyl listening bar upstairs playing 70s and 80s Greek records. Like any good taverna, generous portions and sharing dishes will be on offer, with the menu including:
handmade pasta with sea urchinhoney-roasted tomatoes with goat cheese and thyme oillamb shoulder from the spitgrilled beef livers wrapped in lamb offalcrispy pork belly gyros with pitta and tzatziki fish of the day, prepared raw, grilled, steamed with lemon oil ‘bianco’ or served as a bourdeto stewgrilled lobster with lobster head bisque ricesteak tartare with sundried tomatoes, basil and graviera cheese ice creamGrandmama’s disco fries topped with shredded veal kokkinistopistachio baklava ice-cream sandwich caramelised burnt milk creamMaza will also offer the world’s largest exclusively Greek wine list, running to over 150 wines. Greek ingredients will feature across the cocktail menu, which includes a tsipouro ritual – a shot served with mezze to mark the start of the meal. Yamas!
