birkenstock | the new loma & solana collections

Stepping out in a pair of clogs used to be a choice reserved for hospital corridors or very specific types of gardening, yet Birkenstock has revolutionised practical footwear. The German brand is now ready to build on that legacy with the debut of ‘Loma,’ a contemporary closed-toe silhouette that reinterprets 250 years of shoemaking heritage.

The new design represents a fresh direction for the company, taking the familiar curves of the 1976 original iconic Boston and adding a technical edge with adjustable hook-and-loop closures. It is built to be a workhorse for the winter months, appearing in textures like rich felt and premium suede. The felt version comes with a plush shearling-lined original cork-latex footbed, while the suede and nubuck iterations offer a more polished look. Every pair sits on a lightweight EVA outsole, available in shades like Anthracite and Oyster that fit into a utilitarian wardrobe.

Alongside the clog comes the ‘Solana,’ a slide that refines the classic slip-on through a material-first lens. This model draws some of its creative energy from past high-profile collaborations with the likes of Tekla and Fear of God, resulting in a minimalist aesthetic that prioritises structure and warmth. It appears in soft felt with a shearling lining, offered in a range of colours including Mauve and Oyster, once again. The focus is a blend of structure and minimalism that makes the slide a functional option for layering during the colder seasons.

Both models are built around the signature anatomically shaped footbed that has become the hallmark of the brand. This design is rooted in the biomechanics of the human foot, aiming to provide support that allows for a natural walking experience. Even with the new architectural lines and modern materials, the company remains committed to its founding principle of “naturgewolltes gehen,” or walking as nature intended.
