Wexford v Carlow recap and result from National Hurling League clash

Recap of the gameWexford got the better of a game Carlow in an entertaining Division 1B match at Chadwicks Park this evening. Both sides had their moments in what was an exceptionally tight contest for the vast majority of the evening, with Wexford turning on the afterburners in the final 10 minutes to put some gloss on the scoreline.Keith Rossiter's side started the better and landed the first telling blow inside the opening quarter of an hour. Ross Banville won a puck-out and as he turned, the Carlow defence parted like the red sea, leaving the big midfielder so much time and space to stride forward, fire on goal and raise a green flag. But as would become a theme on the evening, Carlow responded in double quick time with Fiachra Fitzgerald firing home from a tight angle to level the scores just moments later.Free takers Martin Kavanagh (Carlow) and Simon Roche (Wexford) were laser-accurate from dead balls, and it was no surprise to see the sides head for the half-time break with just three points between them in favour of Wexford.Carlow ate into that three point gap and within 15 minutes, Kavanagh was firing the visitors into a one-point lead.Lee Chin entered the field around this time and instantly looked to exert his considerable influence on proceedings, firing over a lovely point to level the game on the 55 minute mark. That's when Wexford looked to kick for home. The impressive Tomás Kinsella and Jack Redmond raised white flags, before a second Chin point of the evening left the gap at five points with nine minutes left to play.Carlow tried but failed to reduce the arrears, and when Mark Fanning fired home a penalty following a Kevin McDonald black card, it was game, set, match.
