E.ON Next cuts EV tariff day rates to boost off-peak savings

E.ON Next has cut daytime rates on its electric vehicle (EV) tariffs, helping fleet drivers and shift workers reduce charging costs at home with savings of up to £500 a year.

E.ON Next said the repricing of its Next Drive Smart and Next Drive Fixed tariffs are to help EV drivers with home chargers lower their overall energy bills, while maintaining low overnight charging rates.

New rates for E.ON Next

The energy company said customers using Next Drive Smart to charge their vehicle off-peak can save an average of £509 a year compared with charging under the energy price cap.

Those on Next Drive Fixed can save around £485 a year.

Next Drive Smart v5.5 offers an off-peak rate of 6.5p per kWh between midnight and 6am, with a new daytime rate of 29.84p per kWh from 6am to midnight, down from 31.12p. E.ON Next said this equates to an annual saving of £35 on daytime usage.

Next Drive Fixed v13 offers an off-peak rate of 7.5p per kWh between midnight and 6am, with a revised daytime rate of 31.13p per kWh, reduced from 33.38p. This change delivers an annual saving of £61 on daytime charging.

The Government is planning a consultation this year to remove planning permission currently needed for those without driveways to install cross pavement charging gullies.

Charging at home is a more cost-effective option for EV drivers compared with the public networks. While many fleets with electric company cars will be charging at home, some commercial fleets, like BT and Openreach charge at home too.

No exit fees

Jean Coleman, director of commercial at E.ON Next, said: "Our Next Drive tariffs have been designed to give customers greater flexibility, enabling them to charge their EVs at lower cost overnight rates while still benefiting from competitive pricing during peak times.

"It’s about helping lower bills for everyone, making the move to electric not just easier, but smarter and more cost-effective."

Both tariffs have no exit fees, allowing customers to switch if their circumstances change.

Customers also receive a free one-year subscription to Zoom EV, providing discounts on public charging, parking and car hire, alongside a one-off donation to the Woodland Trust.
