How to watch the Edinburgh derby

Hearts host rivals Hibs at Tynecastle Park on Tuesday night in an Edinburgh derby that could have a huge bearing on the Premiership title race.

The Jambos are now just three points clear of Rangers at the top of the table after losing a league match for only the third time this season in a 1-0 defeat at St Mirren last week. Derek McInnes’ side held on until the 89th minute in Paisley after losing defender Craig Halkett to a red card in the first half - their third sending off in five matches finally catching up with them.

Failure to bounce back by beating Hibs - and avenge their 3-2 defeat at Easter Road in December - would give Rangers the chance to close the gap further when Danny Rohl’s men travel to fourth-placed Motherwell on Wednesday night. Celtic could also capitalise on any slip-ups when they host bottom side Livingston with Martin O’Neill’s side currently six points behind Hearts in third, but with a game in hand.

With Hearts facing Rangers in a huge match at Ibrox on Sunday, their position at the top of the standings could be under threat if results don’t go in their favour in what is a pivotal midweek card in the Premiership season.

Hibs, meanwhile, have regrouped after a difficult January which saw them knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Dunfermline before losing 4-1 at Falkirk. A 1-1 draw with Rangers followed by a last-minute 3-2 win over Dundee United - with new signings impressing - has brought some feelgood factor back ahead of the trip across Edinburgh. David Gray’s men are currently fifth but could move to within a point of Motherwell with a victory at Tynecastle.
