Man arrested after alleged assault on O’Connell Street in Waterford
Gardaí arrested a man in his 20s following an alleged assault on O’Connell Street in Waterford this evening.
The incident occurred at approximately 5pm on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026.
Multiple Garda Units Deployed
Several units from Waterford Garda Station responded to the scene, including members of the Armed Response Unit (ARU).
Gardaí secured the area and took one man into custody shortly after arriving.
Man Detained Under Section 4
Officers arrested the suspect at the scene. Gardaí are currently detaining the man under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Southern Region.
Section 4 allows Gardaí to hold a suspect for questioning for a specified period while they investigate an alleged offence.
