€8,000 for Traveller girl wrongly accused of not paying for sweets

A business has failed to convince the Workplace Relations Commission that its staff were “not aware” a young girl was a Traveller when she was accused of not paying for her sweets and been ordered to pay €8,000 for discriminatory treatment.In an anonymised decision just published, the WRC directed the unidentified business, the operator of an open farm, to pay compensation on foot of a complaint brought on behalf of the girl under the Equal Status Act 2000.
