Disturbing 911 audio has revealed a neighbor shouting, 'She tried to kill the babies,' after a North Carolina mother allegedly murdered one of her children and tried to take the life of the other.
Andrea Faust, 41, of Durham, was arrested on murder and attempted murder charges after her two children, both under the age of five, were found unresponsive at their Chartwell Court home on February 12, according to WNCN News.
One child later died at the hospital while the other remained in recovery as of last week, with the nature of their injuries still unknown.
'I want to let the court know this was a complete mental health crisis,' her husband Eric Faust told the judge Tuesday, according to WRAL News.
Newly released 911 calls captured the sheer horror of at least two neighbors, with one caller painting a chillingly clear picture of the scene during a frantic seven-minute plea for help.
'The emergency is across the street from me. Somebody came out of the house yelling for help, saying she tried to kill the babies,' the caller told authorities, according to the outlet.
The neighbor told dispatchers they rushed to the front door after hearing desperate cries for help, all while a man's screams rang out in the background.
'I looked out and at the house across the street and somebody came out, with a child that was slumped over their shoulder saying, 'Help! Help! Call the police. She tried to kill the babies,'' the caller said.

The man then carried one of the children onto the front lawn and laid him down while neighbors tried to revive him, according to the audio.
'They are also saying someone else is inside and they think they are dead,' the caller added. 'I really think you need to expedite things. This is ridiculous. The child just looks limp.'
Another call revealed a witness telling 911, 'He says one of the children is dead.'
Meanwhile, a different neighbor said they could hear a woman - identified as the mother and grandmother - screaming in the background that her daughter had overdosed, according to WTVD News.
A separate audio clip revealed a first responder confirming they had used Narcan on someone at the scene.
'She's not an awful person, she's not,' neighbor Charlene Montford told WRAL News, describing Faust as a 'very loving mother.'
The Durham Police Department arrested Faust the following day, while city and county officers remained at the home overnight, collecting evidence and towing an SUV from the driveway.
The mother was slated for a court appearance on February 16, three days after her arrest, but was hospitalized following a suicide attempt in Durham County Jail, according to WRAL News.

Faust addressed the court from a hospital bed on Tuesday, where county prosecutors requested she be placed on suicide watch.
Her husband, Eric Faust, was present at the hearing and shared that their surviving child, Kenny, is expected to make a full recovery.
'We still have Kenny Faust, who I am happy to announce is going to make a complete and full recovery,' the father said, before speaking to his wife directly.
'You are still his mother, and I promise you, if you do everything you can to address your mental health, I will keep you updated on his progress in life and hopefully, there will be a time when you can see him again,' he added.
He went on to plead with her and the court, explaining that, while no motive is known, she was a loving mother.
'Anyone will tell you what a tremendous, tremendous mother Andrea was. These were not the actions of my wife,' he said.
He also made an emotional statement to his wife, asking her not to harm herself and urging her to heed her medical team for the sake of their family.
'Andrea, I'm begging you, please no more attempts to harm yourself,' the father said.

'Work with your doctors. Work with anything you can. I promise you, if you do that, I will let you know how Kenny is doing as often as I can,' he added.
'Anybody watching this news, just take a moment to assess where you are mentally, where your family is mentally. Mental health is a very important thing. Please, just make sure everyone's okay.'
Montford, who has known Faust for more than ten years, revealed that she had only recently observed a change in her behavior.
'Only like the last month or so,' she told WRAL. 'Before that, she was very engaged with the kids. She would try to get them out when the weather was nice.'
She described her as once being 'the sweetest woman,' who had grown increasingly stressed since the birth of her second child.
'She was no longer working. She was staying home with both of the boys. There were health challenges with the boys. I think that took a toll on her,' Montford added.
Durham County Assistant District Attorney Mary Jude Darrow requested that Faust be placed under suicide watch and closely supervised due to the severity of her charges, the outlet reported.
A motion was submitted to place her in the safekeeping unit at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women in Raleigh. She was denied bond and ordered to receive mental health services while in custody.
Faust is in the hands of a public defender, with her next hearing scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, at 8:45am.
According to her LinkedIn page, she teaches at two community colleges: Guilford Technical and Central Carolina.
