The first race of the Porsche Carrera Cup Japan season was red-flagged on Saturday following a bizarre barrel roll crash that set a car over the catch fence in the historic 200R corner of the Suzuka circuit.
Masa Taga in the No. 84 CREF Motor Sport Porsche made contact with Hiro and barrel-rolled ahead of the 200R corner. The Porsche caught a lip and was sent spiraling over the catch fence.
Jule Kazuki Treluyer in the Bingo Racing No. 9 and Hiro in the. NRG No. 16 was battling in turn 10 while Taga was running behind. When the No. 16 faded, and Taga came to battle the two hit, sending the No. 84 Porsche over the fence.
Taga was okay following the crash with no serious injuries sustained from the red flag crash.
The fence was heavily damaged by the contact, delaying the parade laps ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix by ten minutes.
