The ABC understands Australia's most decorated soldier Ben Roberts-Smith has been arrested over allegations of war crimes.
The Victorian Cross recipient, aged 47, was arrested at Sydney Airport on Tuesday morning.
His arrest comes after a mammoth defamation trial against Nine Newspapers which ended in a court finding there was "substantial truth" to allegations he killed four unarmed civilians in Afghanistan.
