'This Is From Joyce' Sees The Characters Problem-Solving Together

The episode’s cold open started in its usual fun way, where a character was in a pickle and needed their colleagues' assistance. In this case, St. Denis Medical doubled up with Alex helping Serena, Bruce helping Ron, and Matt helping Joyce.
Serena’s storyline involved a "Botox and Bubbles" party, where she injected a small group of women with Botox as they sipped champagne and chatted. She needed a second nurse to help her after her friend backed out, leading to Alex joining her.
Thanks to Serena, Alex realized she had forgotten how to have fun and thought that this side job with Serena would spark a new interest for her. Little did she know, it would later backfire.
Meanwhile, Joyce is still going through her breakup from Sanderson and was preparing Matt to give Sanderson back his box of personal items when he had inevitably visited the hospital. Matt was in an awkward position but agreed to help.
On the other side of the hospital, Ron and Bruce talked about their finances. Bruce encouraged Ron to invest more of his money in terms of stocks and cryptocurrencies. While Ron was suspicious about gambling his money, he trusted Bruce’s portfolio and invested $10,000 in hopes of one day getting an expensive massage chair for his house.
As is the case with most episodes, the staff at St. Dennis always has good intentions, but things always go wrong. Alex realized she couldn’t let loose and have fun when she assumed the partygoers were underage. She worried Serena would lose her nursing license and acted out of character to find out the group's real ages.
Things go wrong when the host’s dog drinks a vile of Botox, and Alex is caught snooping through one of the women’s purses, looking for her license to verify her age.
Serena was annoyed that Alex almost ruined her side gig, but was mature enough to see the bigger picture: Alex needed more of a social life outside of her family. By the end of the episode, the nurses left the house and went for a drink as close friends.
In Joyce’s storyline, she realized that Sanderson was moving on and achieving his dreams without her. With Matt’s help, Joyce realized she had to let go of the relationship and go after the things she wanted.
In a funny twist, by the end of the episode, Matt related to Joyce and told her that he knew what it was like to pine after someone that they see every day and not be able to do anything about it. Viewers knew that Matt was talking about Serena, but Joyce hilariously assumed Matt was talking about her.
Meanwhile, Ron eventually took Bruce's suggestion and invested $10,000 into a cryptocurrency site, and while he originally made money on the investment, by the end of the episode, he lost it all. He realized that while he admired Bruce’s confidence, he wasn’t Bruce, and he shouldn't act like him.
In all, episode 10 felt like St. Denis Medical found its stride and its own identity. The group’s chemistry was undeniable, the jokes were sharper, and the storylines were more exciting with anticipation of what’s to come.

Like season 1, season 2 will air 18 episodes in total, leaving eight remaining, and the St. Denis Medical cast has been very vocal about what they want for their characters. Speaking with NBC, Matt actor Mekki Leeper wants to see his character's crush on Serena fully explored.
Josh Lawson hopes that the sitcom will showcase more of character Bruce's medical knowledge, while Ron actor David Alan Grier is hoping to see his character spread his wings and overextend himself. Viewers saw this in the most recent episode, where Ron went outside of his comfort zone and invested his money.
St. Denis medical season 2 has also had several famous guest stars like Love Island's’Ariana Madix, Hacks’ Lauren Weedman, and comedian Frankie Quinones, and it's possible there are more to come before the season finale.
There’s a lot of potential for the rest of the season in terms of friendships and romantic relationships, and while St. Deni Medical season 3 hasn’t been announced yet, there’s a lot that can be developed and revealed in the remaining episodes of season 2 that could lead to an exciting new season.
