Tawfiq Tirawi, a member of the Fatah Central Committee, has publicly warned of exposing documented corruption files if what he described as widespread corruption and the absence of accountability within Palestinian Authority institutions continue.
In an open letter addressed to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and published on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Tirawi said he had repeatedly raised concerns over corruption and injustice within official institutions over many years, both directly with the president and through formal channels. He noted that some of these cases were referred to former prime ministers and the public prosecutor, but said the measures taken failed to produce concrete results that would protect citizens’ rights or preserve the public interest.
Tirawi stated that corruption, as he described it, has expanded across multiple levels of government and the judiciary. He alleged that employees and specialists who prepared documented reports on the seizure of public and private land and property were subjected to threats and intimidation by influential figures.
Questioning the value of the sacrifices made by the Palestinian people in the absence of accountability, Tirawi said that those he described as “land thieves and brokers” are operating with impunity.
He explained that after submitting dozens of letters and observations to the president, and holding extensive discussions with colleagues in the Fatah Central Committee and movement cadres, he decided to address the issue publicly through the media and social media platforms. Tirawi warned that continued inaction could prompt him to disclose corruption files to the public.
