Valencia Secures Spain Sail Grand Prix in New Three-Year Deal

Valencia will host the Spain Sail Grand Prix for the first time following a new three-year deal with SailGP. The inaugural event in the Spanish city is scheduled for 5–6 September 2026. The announcement follows the season opener of the 2026 Rolex SailGP Championship in Perth. Valencia now joins global cities like Rio de Janeiro, Bermuda, New York, Portsmouth, and Dubai on the calendar.

SailGP CEO Sir Russell Coutts said: “We are delighted to welcome Valencia to the SailGP calendar, starting this year. With its sporting heritage and world-class racing conditions, Valencia will become a natural home for SailGP as we continue to grow in Spain.” He added, “Securing a multi-year commitment is key to delivering a world-class experience for our fans. Following Spain’s Season 4 championship title, it is clear that this nation’s passionate and truly global fanbase is a natural fit for the growth of our league, teams and partners.”

Valencia, with its deep-rooted maritime heritage and history of hosting high-profile sailing events, replaces Andalucía-Cádiz, which hosted SailGP for four years.

Spain SailGP Team driver Diego Botín welcomed the announcement, calling it a homecoming: “Valencia is an iconic city closely linked to the sea. With the perfect mix of wind and waves, we are ready to deliver plenty of action.”

Tickets for the Valencia event will go on sale in February. Early access will be available via SailGP+ with exclusive prices and viewing options. Valencian officials expressed strong support for the deal.

Second Vice President José Díez said: “The Valencian Government welcomes this major competition. Our region’s long-standing connection to sailing and experience in hosting top-level events will ensure success.” Councillor for Sports, Rocío Gil, said: “Hosting SailGP is a great opportunity for Valencia to strengthen its position as a sports capital.”

The Provincial Council of Valencia also backed the move, citing the economic and tourism boost expected from hosting the global event.
