This story contains spoilers from When Calls the Heart seasons 12 and 13.
We’re just about halfway through When Calls the Heart season 13, and we have to talk about Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) and Edie Martell's (Miranda MacDougall) relationship!
Fans were first introduced to Edie back in season 12 of the Hallmark drama, when she tried to stop Lucas from using his gubernatorial duties to take her land for a resort in Hope Valley. While she eventually relented in favor of the town creating a national park, it was clear Edie and Lucas had a romantic spark. What’s more, the duo’s will-they-or-won’t-they bond is playing out in season 13, with Lucas trying to prove himself as a potential romantic partner for Edie.
Good Housekeeping spoke with Chris about what Lucas and Edie’s relationship will look like in future episodes. As he explained to us about the two’s dynamic, there’s definitely a potential for romance. But given how this relationship is different than Lucas’s previous bond with his ex-fiancée Elixabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow), Chris thinks there’s still some hesitancy before anything could happen.

Chris McNally Shocks Fans With Rare Life Announcement
We ❤️ Chris McNally and Julie Gonzalo's Love Story“I think Lucas is still guarded and afraid of being hurt,” he told us about Lucas and Edie’s current dynamic. “I think that he's been down this road before, and it was quite painful for him. So that could be a challenge for Lucas to overcome—but it does feel different, too. I feel like Edie challenges Lucas in certain ways that Elizabeth didn't. You know, it's just a different dynamic between the two characters, and I enjoy that about the two of them.”
But that’s not all. Despite Lucas and Edie not necessarily being ready to define what’s going on between them, Chris loves how the two are taking things slowly. In fact, he’s having a ball portraying this element of Lucas’ life, especially since Chris thinks Edie has more of a pull on Lucas than fans may expect.
"There's also the aspect of Edie, and she's a huge element that's present for him this season,” he added. “I think it’s quite influential for him, and there's some fun push and pull that lets viewers venture a little farther into their dynamic. I had a lot of fun playing into that, yeah.”
Well, Chris, you have definitely intrigued us to tune into When Calls the Heart when the next episode airs!
