Be it the brutally challenging Skyblock seed, convenient crafting overhaul, or colossal list of new items, there’s something in this update for everyone. Bigger & Boulder is as ambitious as it is impactful, and these are all of the new features that you can look forward to.

The Escapist recaps Terraria 1.4.5 is the latest major update for Re-Logic’s popular sandbox, released on January 27, 2026. The Bigger & Boulder update adds a new Skyblock seed, over 650 new items, extensive balance changes, and numerous quality of life improvements. Terraria has also collaborated with Dead Cells and Palworld, introducing crossover items from both games. A fully revamped crafting interface replaces the classic vertical list, allowing players to view hundreds of recipes at once, including those using items stored in nearby chests.

The Terraria 1.4.5 update was released on January 27, 2026. This long-awaited expansion was in the making for over three years, but is now finally available to play on PC, console, and mobile.

Terraria 1.4.5 introduced a new secret world option, the Skyblock Seed. Inspired by the classic Minecraft challenge, this seed generates a highly limited world that features just a single floating island, as well as a small Shimmer lake hidden in either the Cavern or Underground layer.

To get started, create a new character and world, then select the Skyblock seed by using the new custom seed option marked by the sapling on the world creation screen. A Small world is recommended to reduce travel time between biomes, while Expert difficulty offers the best balance between challenge and accessibility.

Upon spawning, all you’ll have access to are basic tools, a handful of blocks, the Guide, slimes, and a Solidifier. It’s not much to work with, but it’s possible to not only make progress but even defeat the Moon Lord. It won’t be easy, but by combining both legacy mechanics and new systems, you can overcome this brutal challenge!

Terraria 1.4.5 has overhauled the crafting UI with a new interface that brings the convenience of mods like Recipe Browser to the vanilla game. The classic vertical list has been upgraded into a slick window that allows you to quickly search for and create anything you want, although the old option is still available for those who prefer it.

Even better, this overhaul lets you craft items using nearby chests, rather than having to carry everything in your inventory. With some efficient base building and smart chest placement, this will make the crafting process easier than ever.

The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed a few items from the previous list originate from Dead Cells and Palworld. These were added as part of a collaboration with both games, seeing a range of new themed content added in Terraria 1.4.5.

For Dead Cells, the following items were added:

Alchemy Flask (crafting station) Barrel Launcher (ranged weapon) Flint (melee weapon) Item Flask (cosmetic) Killing Deck (magic weapon) Mushroom Staff (summon weapon) Ram Rune (accessory) Swarm Grenade (pet)

For Palworld, the following items were added:

Cattiva (summon weapon) Foxparks (summon weapon) Chillet (mount) Chillet Ignis (mount) Digtoise (pet) Huge Dragon Egg (consumable) Pal Metal Chestplate (vanity) Pal Metal Leggings (vanity)

All of these items will remain permanent additions to Terraria. Just keep in mind that most of these are only acquirable in new worlds created in Update 1.4.5 onward, so you won’t be able to find them in your old worlds.

New Slime variants

Update 1.4.5 has given Terraria’s most iconic monster a lot of love in the form of several new Slime variants. These include Cloud Slimes that jump up high, Moonglow Slimes that emit light, and even Dart Trap Slimes that shoot arrows at you as they jump around.

Slimes have also been given a huge buff for the early game, as the gel they drop can now be crafted into either a Slime Spear or Slime Whip. These are strong options early on for Melee and Summoner, so you might want to think twice about ignoring these low-level enemies.

Even as you progress, Slimes remain relevant thanks to the addition of several new variants found deep below. These underground slimes are the key to acquiring certain crafting materials, especially for challenges like the new Skyblock seed.

Terraria Update 1.4.5 introduces all kinds of QoL changes that look to reduce friction in just about every area. These may not be the flashiest part of the patch, but they will make a big difference to your future adventures.

Here are the most notable quality of life changes that are now live in Update 1.4.5:

All items are now stackable in both your inventory and chests. There is a brief pause while reforging whenever an item’s best modifier is rolled, making it harder to accidentally skip over it. Improved Smart Cursor makes placing platforms and blocks precisely easier. Banners are now automatically stored in the Banners Window, preventing them from using up your inventory space. The new Crafting Window shows a lot more crafting recipes at a time and shows recipes using items from nearby chests. The guide also now uses this improved interface. The Housing Query tool now displays more useful information to help players figure out what qualifies as valid housing for NPCs. NPCs can now move in even when a house isn’t available, assuming all other requirements have been met. Armor pieces will now display their set bonuses without having to first acquire the full set. Informational Accessories still function when placed in a vanity slot. Pylons can now be purchased freely regardless of an NPC’s happiness. Ask The Escapist Is cross-play available in Update 1.4.5?

No, cross-play has not been added to Terraria yet. While Re-Logic and DR Studios have been working on it for some time, it was not added in this update and is instead expected to follow in the future.

When will mod support be added to Update 1.4.5?

There’s no release date for mod support in Update 1.4.5. Historically, tModLoader becomes compatible with major updates several months after release, meaning Bigger & Boulder could take anywhere between six months and a year before you can use mods.

When will Terraria’s next major update be released?

It’s too early to say exactly, but you shouldn’t expect anything notable for at least two years. For context, the last major update before Bigger and Boulder was Labor of Love, which launched in September 2022.
