The Duke Blue Devils improved to 25-2 with Saturday’s impressive 68-63 victory over the Michigan Wolverines, who had previously been the No. 1 ranked team in the country.
Following the latest AP Poll release on Monday, Duke moved into the top spot and now has a chance to control its own destiny on the road to potentially earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament when the 68-team field is announced in a few weeks.
Ahead of that, Duke revealed major news regarding head coach Jon Scheyer, who has done a remarkable job since taking over for the legendary Mike Krzyzewski in 2022.
Scheyer has been named one of 15 finalists for the Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year, an honor he has never won. He was a semifinalist last season after leading Duke to an ACC regular season and conference tournament title and a Final Four appearance.

Scheyer has done a tremendous job picking up Duke right where Mike Krzyzewski left off. He’s continued the program’s cycle of talent, retaining key players and keeping top prospects in Durham—something he’s managed exceptionally well with this year’s roster.
The team is headlined by true freshman Cameron Boozer, one of the best players in the country, but he’s surrounded by experience, including returning stars Isaiah Evans, Caleb Foster, and Patrick Ngongba, all of whom are starters under Scheyer.

The Blue Devils return to action on Tuesday when they face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, before concluding the regular season with matchups against No. 11 Virginia, N.C. State, and No. 18 North Carolina. Those games will lead directly into the ACC Tournament in two weeks.
