‘Things can’t go on like this,’ that was the Prime Minister’s warning today as he summoned the bosses of TikTok, Meta, X, Snapchat and Google to Downing Street demanding real-world changes to protect children online.

This comes as the government considers whether to introduce a social media ban for under 16’s, similar to the one in Australia.

But for the bereaved parents, who watched as MPs voted down protections for children like theirs, the words ring hollow.
