Households could save big money on holiday if they unplug two items
While we're always looking for ways to improve our energy bills by using appliances at different times, it turns out simply unplugging unused items could be even more beneficial. Irish holidaymakers have been advised what items they need to unplug before heading abroad for a sun holiday this Summer, which will significantly lower your bills, adding up to a lot of saving. Leaving two electrical devices on stand-by mode, especially when going on holiday, is costing us a fortune according to the experts. Experts at Eclipse Energy have said: "By turning off these appliances completely instead of leaving them on standby, you can reduce your energy bills significantly as well as your carbon footprint." And when it comes to which appliances are the worst devices to leave on standby, the experts have revealed that televisions are "one of the worst appliances to leave on standby." They advised: "If you switch off your TV completely when you're not using it, you could save around €35 on your energy bill." Satellite TV boxes from providers such as Sky and Virgin Media also use a significant amount of electricity even in standby mode. According to the experts, unplugging the boxes could save you €25 on your bill. Gaming consoles are identified as another "big culprit" in terms of standby energy consumption. These consoles can use 45 watts of energy when left on standby. If your gaming console isn't in use, it's recommended to turn it off entirely or disconnect it from the mains. By taking this action, "you could save another €35". Join our Dublin Live breaking news service on WhatsApp. Click this link to receive your daily dose of Dublin Live content.
