Mother of Patrick Kielty dies hours after son hosts Late Late Show

Patrick Kielty is mourning the heartbreaking loss of his beloved mum, who died shortly after he hosted last night's Late Late Show on RTE. Mary Kielty, who was aged in her 80s, passed away peacefully at her home in Dundrum, Co Down today. Her funeral is due to take place on Monday and the Kielty family has said she "will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her entire family circle, neighbours and friends". Patrick, who took over as host of the Late Late Show last year, often spoke fondly of his mother's no-nonsense approach to his fame. He revealed that when people praised her for raising a successful son, she would simply respond, "Which son? I've got three of them and I'm proud of them all." In a previous interview, Patrick had also shared that his mother still offered to do his laundry. He said: "I think Irish mummies never really understand what age their youngsters actually are. So you do get a lot of offers like 'Do you have any washing' and I would be like 'Well no, no that's done, I'm 53 mum." Patrick's family life has been marked by tragedy as well, with the death of his father and Mary's husband Jack, who was killed by loyalist paramilitaries when Patrick was just 16 years old. Mary Kielty's death notice reads: "KIELTY (nee O'Hare) Mary R.I.P.
