Dublin Port unveil two new livestream cameras
Dublin Port have unveiled two new livestream cameras - providing near real-time views of both Dublin Bay and the city itself. The cameras offer the public a unique glimpse into the daily workings of Ireland's busiest port, which last year saw around 1.6 million ferry passengers and trade worth a whopping €165bn. On average, the Port sees about 15,000 ship movements per year in the Dublin Port shipping channel - all of which can now be seen on the live streams. Since their beta launch in July, these live streams have been viewed over 1.29 million times on YouTube, with viewers from 50 countries worldwide enjoying views of the Port, the Poolbeg Chimneys, the Great South Wall, and Poolbeg Lighthouse. The city-side stream offers views of the River Liffey, the Aviva Stadium, the Dublin mountains, and some local yacht and boat clubs, along with commercial shipping. The stream has already captured breathtaking sunrises over the Port, located within the UNESCO-designated Dublin Bay biosphere, the movement of ships entering and exiting the harbour, and even a meteor sighting in November 2024. And during significant weather events, such as Storm Darragh in December and Storm Eowyn in January, the cameras became a go-to for avid weather watchers, with viewing spikes recorded during these storms. Dublin Port is also considering the provision of live marine data and weather updates for viewers, with plans to add a third viewpoint from Poolbeg Lighthouse later this year. Head of External Affairs at Dublin Port Claire Percy said: "These livestreams provide a real insight into our busy Port the hardworking heart of Dublin. No matter when you tune in, the Port is bustling with activity on land and on the water, operating 24/7, 365 days a year. "Ships are constantly on the move, delivering everyday essentials to Ireland and supporting Irish exporters. You might spot ferries, container vessels, bulk ships, and car carriers all crucial activity that often goes unnoticed by the public. "We have received positive feedback from viewers so far, who have found the live stream cameras fascinating and even relaxing! Between the movements of the ships, cranes, water, weather and birds, there is always something to see."
