Dublin among 14 counties put under rare Met Eireann high temperature warning

Dublin is among 14 counties that have been put under a Status Yellow high temperature warning for tomorrow by Met Eireann. The capital joins Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Monaghan, Roscommon, and Tipperary in being placed under the warning, which will kick in at 12pm tomorrow. The warning remains active until 6am Saturday morning. A separate Status Yellow high temperature warning then kicks in for all of Ireland at 12pm on Saturday, until 6am on Sunday morning. The warning says people should expect maximum temperatures in excess of 27C, combined with night-time minimums in excess of 15C. Potential impacts include: It comes as a weather expert has said "don't panic" as a "lot of rain" hitting Ireland is set to show up on weather apps after the current heatwave. Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said people should expect to see the rainy conditions on their phones soon after a "big change" in the latest European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts update for next Thursday. But ensemble forecasts - which are a set of forecasts that present the range of future weather possibilities - are showing that a total washout is a "low risk" possibility for the moment. He said: "If your weather app updates shortly to show lot of rain early next week then don’t panic (or get excited if you want rain). Latest ECMF update is a big change from last run so Met Eireann site/app and YR will update to show this soon, but ensembles show it is low risk at present." He added to "stay tuned for updates for Sunday and next week". It is set to be a scorching Thursday in Dublin as temperature continues to build towards a 29C peak this weekend. Friday: Any fog or mist will slowly clear tomorrow morning to leave another sunny day. However, fog may linger near coasts. A hot day with highest temperatures of 27 or 28 degrees in a light southerly breeze. Friday night: A warm and clear night for most, though some patches of mist and fog are possible. Temperatures not falling below 13 to 16 degrees in a light southerly breeze. Saturday: Very warm or hot on Saturday with plenty of sunshine, turning hazy over the western half of the country. Highest temperatures of 24 to 29 degrees in a light to moderate southeast breeze. Saturday night: Remaining dry and warm with clear spells, though cloud will gradually build in the west and southwest. An uncomfortable night for sleeping with temperatures not falling below 14 to 17 or 18 degrees in a light southeast breeze. Sunday: A dry and bright start on Sunday with spells of sunshine for most. However, cloud will thicken from the southwest through the day with outbreaks of rain gradually developing in Munster, Connacht and west Ulster. A very warm or hot day for most with highest temperatures of 23 to 28 degrees in light to moderate southeast winds. However, it will be slightly cooler under increasing cloud in the southwest. Monday: A fresher day on Monday with scattered outbreaks of rain at first. The rain will clear to the northeast in the afternoon with sunny spells and scattered showers following behind. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees, warmest in the east, in moderate to fresh westerly winds.
