Dublin has been named one of the most congested cities in the world.
New data from TomTom shows that Ireland has the third most congested city in the world - and it's Dublin. It's reached such a high level that the average motorist lost almost eight days to sitting in traffic in 2025.
The average congestion in Dublin reached 72.9% which was a 1.7% increase on the year before. During the busiest period, it hit 225% on the busiest day of the year which was Thursday, December 11.
On average you could drive 4.4km in 15 mins, with a typical 10km drive taking around 34 minutes and 29 seconds to complete. The average speed during rush hour - when bumper to bumper traffic was across the board - was just 13.5km/h.
The motorway average speed was 40.6km/h, less than half the limit of 100km/h you'll see on the M50. The worst time of the week to travel was around 5pm on a Thursday, when traffic would be at its heaviest across the capital.
Dublin only ranked behind Bengaluru in India and Mexico City for congestion, making Ireland's capital city the worst in Europe overall.
