Avengers: Doomsday's X-Men trailer reveals the exciting return of several of Fox's original mutants, but it also makes one MCU character's absence from the film more disappointing. The upcoming Avengers film has a massive roster of Marvel characters, bringing together heroes from the Avengers, the X-Men, the Thunderbolts, The Fantastic Four, and Wakanda.
Almost a year ahead of its December 18, 2026, release date, Marvel has shared four teasers for the film, highlighting many of its returning characters, including several mutants. The X-Men trailer featured a reunion between Patrick Stewart's Professor X and Ian McKellen's Magneto, as well as James Marsden's Cyclops unleashing a stunning optic blast.
However, many MCU characters are still absent from the film's cast, including Ms. Marvel, who last appeared in 2023's The Marvels. With the X-Men's return in Doomsday, Marvel is missing out on a chance to capitalize on an intriguing twist with Kamala Khan's character.
Ms. Marvel Not Meeting The X-Men Would Be A Missed Opportunity After Her Mutant Tease
Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel using her light powers in Ms. Marvel
The MCU made a surprising change to Kamala's origins in 2022's Ms. Marvel. In the comics, Kamala is an Inhuman who gained her powers after being exposed to the Terrigen Mist. However, in the MCU, she is a mutant who discovered her powers through a mystical bangle that belonged to her family.
Her mutant background is revealed when Bruno shares that he looked at her genetic makeup and realized she has something "like a mutation" in her genes. Accompanied by a riff from X-Men: The Animated Series, Ms. Marvel became the first mutant introduced into the MCU, teasing the X-Men's arrival.
Unfortunately, Iman Vellani wasn't announced as part of Doomsday's cast, meaning she could miss out on interacting with Fox's original X-Men. Considering that Marvel used this twist to tease the X-Men, it would be a perfect opportunity to have her interact with the X-Men, even if it's only for one film.
Besides being satisfying fan service, it would also allow Kamala to further explore her background by meeting other people who share her unique trait. They can teach her how to become a better hero, and possibly how to train other mutants once they join the MCU.
Iman Vellani Isn't Part Of Doomsday's Cast, But She Could Still Be In It

The notorious chair reveal of Doomsday's cast shared much of the film's cast, but it didn't announce everyone. Chris Evans' name wasn't on any of the chairs, yet a recent trailer confirmed his return as Steve Rogers. There's still hope that Vellani could be in the film, especially after recent comments from director Nia DaCosta.
DaCosta directed Vellani in The Marvels and recently spoke about her relationship with Marvel during an interview for 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. Speaking with Deadline, DaCosta revealed that she paid a visit to the set of Doomsday, saying that "some of my friends were in the movie."
It's rather vague who she's speaking about, but since she directed The Marvels, she may be referring to Vellani, Brie Larson, or Teyonah Parris. These three actors were not part of the Doomsday announcement, but could still appear in the film. Hopefully, Marvel creates a team-up between Ms. Marvel and the X-Men, either in Doomsday or Secret Wars.
