'Emotional' Dublin drama is How to Get to Heaven from Belfast fans' next watch

Netflix subscribers who've already devoured How to Get to Heaven from Belfast now have another compelling Irish comedy-drama to get hooked on.

It wasn't long before Derry Girls' creator Lisa McGee's latest show How to Get To Heaven from Belfast climbed to become Netflix's top-watched series, surpassing Bridgerton and The Lincoln Lawyer.

However, for viewers who've completed the eight-episode sensation, there's an alternative launching this evening, and this time it's located in Dublin, Ireland.

Adapted from author Marian Keyes' bestselling novel series, The Walsh Sisters tracks five "dysfunctional but deeply lovable" siblings as they navigate their chaotic 20s and 30s.

Its official synopsis adds: "This is a sisterhood full of in-jokes, hand-me-down resentments and more than a few old wounds.

"But their DNA, history and shared love of power ballads keep the Walsh sisters together in the face of heartbreak, grief, addiction and parenthood."

The Walsh Sisters initially premiered in Ireland in September 2025 on RTE One and RTE Player but launches on Saturday, February 21, at 9.15pm on BBC One.

The comedy-drama will roll out fresh episodes weekly but for viewers unwilling to wait for its release, The Walsh Sisters is available to stream in its entirety on BBC iPlayer.

Derry Girls enthusiasts will be delighted to spot a recognisable face in The Walsh Sisters as Orla McCool star Louisa Harland plays one of the sisters Anna.

She appears alongside House of Guinness and Shadow and Bones star Danielle Galligan, Extraordinary actress Mairead Tyers, Can't Cope, Won't Cope's Stefanie Preissner and Oddity star Caroline Menton.

Those fortunate enough to have already watched The Walsh Sisters have praised the series as "superb", "emotional" and "excellent Irish TV".

Another viewer commented: "The Walsh Sisters is the kind of show that gives you comfort and sting at once.

"It's soft in tone but hard in feeling. It's the kind of Sunday-night hug we all need, with sharp edges."

Discussing her reaction to witnessing her characters brought to life for the first time, author and executive producer Marian Keyes revealed: "I felt so emotional, and so has my husband, because the actors that are playing the sisters are so fully realised.

"Everything from their accents to the clothes they wear to their body language is unique.

"It's a strange and overwhelmingly wonderful feeling. It's just lovely. It is like magic.

"The words were in my head, and now they are actual people. It's mad and gorgeous."

The Walsh Sisters premieres on Saturday, February 21, at 9.15pm on BBC One.
