Arthur Shelby is a fictional character in the BBC drama Peaky Blinders, created by Steven Knight.

As the oldest of the Shelby brothers, Arthur is a key member of the Peaky Blinders gang. He serves as deputy vice president of the Shelby Company Limited, whilst his younger sibling Tommy Shelby holds the position of president.

Whilst the Shelby family is purely fictional, The Peaky Blinders were an actual street gang operating in Birmingham during the early 20th century, reports the Mirror.

What happened to Arthur in Peaky Blinders?

The Peaky Blinders series finale showed a newly sober Arthur pulling back from the edge. He found himself in an explosive gunfight with Jeremiah and his gang, ultimately triumphing over Captain Swing and her associates.

Finally avenging what she'd done to Aunt Polly, he put a bullet through her heart. Yet he was too emotionally raw to join a farewell meal with his brother Tommy Shelby, who'd revealed he was dying from an inoperable brain tuberculoma.

But after the bombshell revelation that this diagnosis was actually an elaborate deception by Oswald Mosley, there's potential for the brothers to meet again.

Who plays Arthur Shelby in Peaky Blinders?

Paul Anderson, an actor from London, portrays Arthur Shelby in Peaky Blinders. His CV includes major Hollywood productions, notably the Academy Award-winning film The Revenant and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

When Digital Spy asked whether he'd reprise his role as Arthur Shelby in the upcoming Peaky Blinders film, he made it clear he'd only commit if the screenplay met his standards.

He explained: "There is talk of it, and if I believed in the script enough and thought it could work, then why not? But like I say, there [are] very few TV shows that do that.

"You wouldn't want to end a good TV series with a bad movie. That wouldn't be right. And TV's such a great medium. A movie is over in an hour and a half, or two hours, and you shoot it for four months or less, and then it's done."

What is the new Peaky Blinders movie about?

The upcoming film, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, is set in the early days of WWII and will feature Cillian Murphy reprising his role as Tommy Shelby.

Netflix's official description states: "Birmingham, 1940. Amidst the chaos of WWII, Tommy Shelby is driven back from a self-imposed exile to face his most destructive reckoning yet.

"With the future of the family and the country at stake, Tommy must face his own demons, and choose whether to confront his legacy, or burn it to the ground. By order of the Peaky Blinders..."

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is coming to select cinemas on March 6 and arrives on Netflix on March 20.
