The SSE Arena has released an official statement following a wave of complaints over a K-Pop tribute show that prompted both children and parents to leave early.
The first K-Pop Forever Tribute show opened at The SSE Arena, Belfast, on Thursday evening, drawing thousands of youngsters and their parents, many of whom arrived dressed as characters from the popular film K-Pop Demon Hunters. The show is due to come to Dublin for three nights at the 3Arena from March 9 to 11.
But for many attendees of the the Belfast show, the evening fell well short of expectations, with numerous parents lodging complaints with the venue and footage circulating online showing large crowds departing before the show had concluded. Tickets for the sold-out event started at £38.95 (€44.60), reports Belfast Live.
Scores of disgruntled audience members also took to social media to express their frustration, citing poor sound quality, 'adult' costumes, unfamiliar music, and misleading promotional imagery.
Furious parents told Belfast Live the show was 'a shambles', with one stating: "A KPop tribute band with not one KPop song sang until one hour and 20 minutes into the show. There were children crying, the show wasn't as advertised."
Nevertheless, some have defended the organisers, arguing that the show's promotional material had indicated it would feature a broad selection of K-pop music, rather than exclusively songs from K-Pop Demon Hunters.
In the wake of the event, the SSE Arena released a statement via social media, acknowledging customer feedback regarding the "content" of the show.
It read: "We are aware of some feedback received following the K-Pop Forever Tribute show this evening at The SSE Arena, Belfast.
"The show played in Belfast tonight as part of a world tour, and the content, design and choreography has been built to represent the full K-pop genre, featuring songs from BTS, Blackpink and Katseye, as well as eight hits from Demon Hunters including 'Golden', 'Takedown' and 'Soda Pop'.
"Whilst the majority of customers enjoyed the show, we understand that this was not what some expected; however, we are content that the show delivered this evening was an arena-standard tribute to the entire K-Pop genre."
