I work for a call center that provides software to businesses.
Caller: “I’ve been on hold for half an hour! This is ridiculous! Why is my service not working?! I tried to check the accounts, and they’re not loading! I just keep getting an annoying pop-up!”
Me: “I apologize for the wait, sir. We’re getting a lot of calls this morning since the software update pushed through overnight, and a lot of customers didn’t read the emails announcing it over the last few months.”
Caller: “What emails?!”
Me: “The emails that said the software would update overnight and you’d need to download the update to access the software and server.”
Caller: “I run a small business; I don’t have time to read emails!”
Me: “Which is why you’ve been on hold for half an hour for me to tell you to click on that annoying pop-up to tell it that “yes” you would like to update the software.”
Caller: “This is very annoying!”
Me: “Sir, it’s a simple solution, and you can do the update yourself in under five minutes.”
Caller: “Yes, that’s why it’s annoying!” *Click.*
