Norman Hartnell couture, off-duty tartan and the blue gown worn for Princess Margaret's wedding are among the highlights of a landmark new exhibition celebrating the enduring style legacy of Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style, which opens at The King's Gallery at Buckingham Palace on Friday 10th April ahead of the centenary of Her Majesty's birth, marks the largest display of the late monarch's fashion ever mounted, featuring some 200 items – with roughly half on show for the first time.

Alongside these extraordinary pieces are key artefacts that craft a picture of the process of designing for the monarch, including fabric samples, early sketches and handwritten annotations by the designers, the monarch and her trusted dresser, Angela Kelly.

Alongside key pieces from the late Queen's wardrobe will be designs from British heavyweights Erdem Moralioglu, Richard Quinn and Christopher Kane, who have each created pieces or a collection influenced by Queen Elizabeth II's style.

But for any royal jewellery lover there will only be eyes for the three tiaras on display, which capture some of the glamour of Her Majesty's official collection.
