Starmer accused of breaking ministerial code over Mandelson vetting scandal

Sir Keir Starmer told MPs it "beggars belief" that the Foreign Office chose to withhold the facts about Lord Mandelson's failed vetting checks.

Addressing the Commons on Monday, Starmer sought to explain how he was not aware Peter Mandelson had failed his security vetting before taking up his post as the UK's ambassador to Washington, blaming top civil servant Sir Olly Robbins for deliberately keeping him in the dark.
