JioSaavn reports that it has surpassed 500 million downloads on the Google Play Store, marking a significant milestone for the India-based music streaming app, which was founded in 2007.
The company describes the achievement as one that “reflects JioSaavn‘s continued rise as one of India’s most popular music streaming services.” The platform competes with Gaana and with international players like Spotify and Apple Music in market.
JioSaavn now claims to be the “second most downloaded entertainment app in India,” trailing only JioHotstar, which recorded 1 billion downloads. Both services operate under the Jio digital ecosystem, controlled by Reliance Industries.
The milestone comes as JioSaavn reported over 100 million monthly active users listening to a catalog of more than 100 million tracks across 15 languages. However, the MAU count remains flat from the 104 million MAUs estimated in 2019.
JioSaavn attributes its recent momentum to feature rollouts, including personalization and user interface improvements. The company redesigned its home feed and introduced “Daily Mixes,” which auto-curate playlists for individual listeners. Another addition, “From the Community,” spotlights playlists created by users across the country. The platform says it has also enhanced multilingual search capabilities.
Subscription pricing also likely played a role in attracting new users to JioSaavn. The company offers its JioSaavn Pro, the company’s ad-free premium tier, at 9 rupees ($0.10) for two months and 399 rupees ($4.42) for an annual subscription during promotions.
Outside promotions, a Pro subscription costs 89 rupees ($0.99) per month and 749 rupees ($8.30) per year. In comparison, a Spotify Premium subscription in India costs 199 rupees ($2.21) per month for the Standard tier.
JioSaavn said its promotional offers “were met with strong consumer response and contributed to drive record engagement.”
“With this milestone, JioSaavn enters its next phase of growth with renewed momentum and focus on enhancing user experience on the platform.”

A Pro subscription gives users access to ad-free music, unlimited JioTunes, or caller tunes, unlimited downloads, unlimited skips and endless autoplay.
The company added: “With this milestone, JioSaavn enters its next phase of growth with renewed momentum and focus on enhancing user experience on the platform. The platform reiterated its focus on delivering a richer listening experience through continuous innovation and strategic collaborations. JioSaavn aims to build on this achievement by further elevating its product and broadening its reach.”
The news arrives as premium streams of music (audio and video) in India rose 43.9% YoY in the first half of 2025, overtaking South Korea for third place in the APAC and A&Z region, according to data from Luminate in October.
In terms of total streams, including ad-supported, India remains in first place, with Japan in second and Indonesia in third. However, India and Indonesia have the lowest share of premium streams among the countries surveyed, with fewer than 20% of streams coming via paid accounts, the report noted.
Despite the surge in streaming numbers, a number of digital streaming platforms have either shut down or exited the market over the recent years. In April of this year, Hungama shut down its music streaming service, just 15 months following the exit of ByteDance’s Resso in January 2024 and Wynk Music in August 2024.
