It’s understandable why millennials feel like they’re constantly being mocked on the internet, from the way they wear socks, how they decorate their home, and even the dreaded millennial pause.
But now it seems that even the way millennials pose for the camera is being scrutinized. TikTok user @jasmineadisbeth shared a clip online highlighting her latest revelation about “the millennial smile.”
During the video, Jasmine explained that she didn’t know what the millennial smile was before seeing social media users discussing it online. She told Newsweek that it was just “a funny little social observation” that had been made and she couldn’t resist sharing it.
But of course, with anything related to millennialism, it’s not exactly viewed in a positive light.

“Gather round because I just found out that we are getting made fun of for something called the millennial smile,” Jasmine said on TikTok.
While many may assume that it’s a no-teeth-smile with a peace sign, or maybe even a pouting facial expression, they’re wrong. In fact, the millennial smile is more of a smise, à la Tyra Banks. Jasmine did her best impression of it on TikTok, as she looked at the camera, tilted her head to the side and pursed her lips.
Since the video was shared online on October 23, it’s gone viral with over 1.2 million views and more than 35,500 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
After learning what it is, Jasmine joked that she’s definitely “done the millennial smile” before, which is what makes the observation all the more real. She certainly won’t be the only millennial who has fallen victim to this pose either.
She continued: “I know I’ve done it before, and that’s the part that I’m like, damn, they’re really clocking me aren’t they?”
Jasmine goes on to say during her TikTok video that people get very divided by all the different millennial traits. However, she can see the humor in them as she believes that “nine times out of 10, they’re true.”
In fact, Jasmine encourages other millennials like her to embrace their generational habits and not to feel cowed under pressure. After all, wouldn’t you rather do the millennial smile than the Gen Z stare?
The online response is beyond anything Jasmine expected, but she told Newsweek that she’s “glad it can make some of us laugh.”
Since the video went viral, it’s amassed over 2,900 comments on TikTok already. Many people found it highly relatable and shared incriminating images of them doing the exact same smile.
One comment on the post reads: “Me continuing to do my millennial smile with my LOL to the very end.”
Another TikTok user wrote: “That’s literally my favorite smile pose.”
Another person replied: “They wish they could do the millennial smile.”
While one commenter added: “The real millennial smile is the duck lips!”
