Two killed after car ploughs into crowd in German city of Leipzig

Two people have died after a car ploughed into a crowd in Leipzig, Germany, police have said.

A city spokesperson said that another two people were seriously injured, German news agency dpa reported.

Police said the incident happened in the central Grimmaische Straße area, where a car struck several people before fleeing the scene.

The driver has since been detained after being stopped by officers in the eastern German city.
