Temperatures to 'shoot up' next week with potential highs of 25C
A sizzling mini-heatwave could hit Ireland soon, with forecasters predicting a climb to toasty temperatures of up to 25C next week. After a bit of a mixed bag weather-wise recently, featuring sunny skies broken up by heavy showers and the odd thunderstorm, the nation is gearing up for a blustery end to the week - but better days are on the horizon. The country's set to bask in significantly sunnier skies as high pressure moves in with balmy air from the continent seeing the mercury tip towards the mid-twenties, reports the Irish Mirror. Ireland's Weather Channel's Cathal Nolan shared some optimistic news on his Facebook page this Thursday. In welcome update he said "we have some very pleasant conditions to look forward to next week", hinting at highs that might nudge just over the 25-degree mark. Cathal added: "As we get into next week, we see high pressure start to build to our East. We see our winds switching around to more south easterly direction, and that draws in some very warm air from the continent at that point, with temperatures during the midweek period next week getting up as high as 24C in some parts of the country." With a hint of excitement, he added: "Maybe even sneaking above 25C if we get the sunshine, and if we see those temperatures building day on day. So certainly, we have some very pleasant conditions to look forward to next week." But Cathal has warned that there's "a little bit of pain to go through over the next 36 hours or so" as a spell of rain will sweep across the country on Thursday, bringing with it some heavy downpours. He said: "As we go through the course of the day, cloud is expected to increase right the way across the country, and with that, some outbreaks of rain are likely across parts of the south, southwest and later on out along the West Coast." These rainy conditions won't be letting up just yet, as they're expected to "gradually transfer up through the country as we go through the late afternoon and evening hours". The unsettled weather is expected to continue into Friday, with potential "some heavy falls of rain possible across parts of the south and southeast, in particular, especially over higher ground". Things might get particularly soggy as Cathal warns we could see "some heavy falls of rain with upwards of 50-55 millimeters in some places" which could prompt Met Eireann to issue a Status Yellow weather warning due to "the possibility" of severe conditions. But it's not all doom and gloom. The outlook brightens significantly as the weekend approaches and we can look forward to "temperatures start to shoot up into the mid 20s next week and we'll seen more in the way of sunshine across the country".
