Leica has unveiled four new M-Lenses that combine the company’s legendary performance with distinctive design variants.
The new releases include three lenses in the Leica Safari edition, featuring a durable olive-green finish, and a glossy black variant of the Summilux-M 50 f/1.4.
These lenses continue Leica’s tradition of combining precision optics, craftsmanship, and aesthetic appeal, offering photographers both performance and style in a compact package.
Leica Safari EditionsThe Leica Safari editions include the Summilux-M 35 f/1.4 ASPH, the Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH, and the Summicron-M 28 f/2 ASPH. These lenses feature a highly durable matte olive-green finish, designed to complement the Leica M11-P Safari camera.
The Safari design also incorporates a silver-chrome brass focus tab, a red feet scale, and a white metre scale, adding subtle yet distinctive accents.
The lenses cover compact wide-angle, standard, and reportage focal lengths, offering photographers flexibility in composition. All three Safari lenses feature extended close-focus distances, which is useful for portraiture or capturing details in environmental photography.
Despite the cosmetic changes, their optical performance and build quality match the standard series models, giving you the same image fidelity and handling you expect from Leica.
Glossy Black Variant
Alongside the Safari lenses, Leica introduced a glossy black version of the Summilux-M 50 f/1.4, belonging to the Classic line. This design emphasizes elegance and heritage, with the glossy finish gradually developing a patina over time that reveals hints of the brass underneath.
The effect ensures that each lens develops a unique character with regular use, appealing to photographers who value both aesthetics and functionality.
The glossy black Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 also features the round lens hood finished in matching black paint. Like the Safari editions, the optical design and wide f/1.4 aperture ensure signature Leica bokeh and high performance, making it suitable for portraiture, reportage, and creative photography.
Leica’s Design Philosophy
Both the Safari and glossy black editions illustrate Leica’s philosophy of combining form and function. The Safari editions offer durability and a visually distinctive design for photographers who work in varied environments, while the glossy black lens emphasizes timeless elegance and the tactile satisfaction of a lens that ages gracefully.
In practical terms, these lenses are designed for photographers who want creative control and reliability. The wide apertures enable low-light shooting and precise subject separation, while the robust construction ensures long-term durability.
The new editions allow you to choose a lens that reflects your shooting style or complements your camera aesthetically without compromising performance.
For photographers who value build quality, optical precision, and design, these new M-Lens editions offer both technical capability and collectible appeal. They are a reminder that Leica continues to balance performance and aesthetics, giving you tools that excel in both image-making and design sophistication.
