Coffee Stain and Ghost Ship Games has announced the release date for yet another spin-off from the popular Deep Rock Galactic IP. The devs are back with a new roguelike experience, with Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core. The game appeared as the final entrant into the Future Games Show at GDC, with a trailer you can catch with the timestamp provided.
The news largely reveals the Early Access release date of Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core. The Early Access release date is set for May 20, giving the game just over two months from the time of writing to release with the base features both players and devs can work on together.
The game itself is a co-op game, where players take on missions as they would in the traditional game. Only this time, you get builds and upgrades as you progress through missions, giving you different tiers of items, guns, and other rewards. Each reward seems to have different loot tiers to them, alongside different perks like getting extra rounds, more damage, or some other effect we can see from the trailer.
There’s also an upcoming playtest, where you can get some early feedback on what absolutely needs adjusting as the devs plow ahead to Early Access release. You can sign up for your interest on the Steam Store page if you’d like.
We also don’t really know how different the Deep Rock Galactic classes will feel with the roguelike element. How different will the roles be, just how different will they actually feel across games? It’s part of the reason why some are wondering if it’s worth the money on the Steam community page, as it looks and feels like DRG, but with a new roguelike spin. Time will tell when players get into that playtest soon, and we’ll have a truly better idea of what is going on with the game. Again, this likely explains why the devs want it in Early Access to work with the player base.
There’s no word yet on what the price will be. But, considering that the other games are relatively cheap, within that €10-25 bracket, chances are that it will fall somewhere along that line too.
All of this comes after the game was originally delayed back in November, only now resurfacing, with the intermittent dev blog between then and now.
