Pokémon Sleep has teamed up with Garmin in what might be the most wholesome wearable tech crossover of the year. The Pokémon Company International announced today that the sleep-tracking mobile game now supports Garmin smartwatches, allowing trainers to log their nightly rest using the wearable devices and feed that data directly into the game.
The partnership launches today, March 13, which conveniently happens to be World Sleep Day, and man, do I need a sleep today. LinkedIn and its inhabitants has tipped me over the edge.
Anyway, to mark the occasion before we all nod off, two themed videos titled “Pokémon Awaits – Day and Night!” and “Good Morning with Pokémon Sleep” have been released on the official Pokémon YouTube channel.
In case you missed it, Pokémon Sleep is a mobile app that gamifies sleep tracking by analyzing how long and how well players rest overnight. Based on the data it generates while you are dreaming peacefully, the app generates Pokémon sleep styles and encounters the next morning, essentially turning your bedtime routine into a slightly more productive Pokédex hunt. I mean you really have to be into your Pokémon, but if you are, it’s pretty cool
With the new integration, Garmin smartwatch owners can now use their wearable devices to track sleep data that feeds into the game. In other words, if you already rely on your Garmin watch to monitor sleep patterns, Pokémon Sleep can now piggyback on that information without needing additional hardware.
To celebrate the rollout, players who register and track their sleep using a Garmin smartwatch between March 13 and November 1 will receive an in-game reward of three Poké Biscuits. These items are used within Pokémon Sleep to befriend visiting Pokémon, meaning they’re essentially treats that help expand your sleepy little monster collection.
The collaboration also introduces two new downloadable watch faces for select Garmin devices. The themes, titled “Pokémon Sleep: Snorlax & Friends” and “Pokémon Sleep: I Choose You,” can be downloaded for free through Garmin’s Connect IQ Store.
These watch faces aren’t just static wallpapers either. Depending on the wearer’s Body Battery energy levels, Garmin’s system for estimating overall energy reserves, the featured Pokémon will change poses throughout the day. Each night, the watch face will also randomly display one of three different sleep styles.
Pokémon Sleep originally launched as a slightly leftfield addition to the Pokémon ecosystem, shifting the focus away from battling or collecting and toward encouraging healthier sleep habits, which let’s face it, none of us really have. The Garmin compatibility pushes the concept further into the broader wearable tech space, letting players combine existing fitness tracking with Pokémon’s trademark charm.
If nothing else, it’s a gentle reminder that sometimes the most productive thing you can do in a Pokémon game is simply go to bed.
