The United States has launched an operation to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, escorting American-flagged commercial ships through the passage as Iran tries to deny the blockade was broken. CENTCOM says Iran launched cruise missiles, drones, and small boats toward commercial and American vessels, and that U.S. forces destroyed six small Iranian boats that tried to interfere.
For the first time since the ceasefire, Iran directly attacked one of the Gulf states. The United Arab Emirates reported missiles and drones launched from Iran, with a fire breaking out at an oil facility in Fujairah and injuries reported. Emirati officials called the attack a dangerous escalation, while Iranian sources threatened that all UAE interests could become targets if the Emirates responds.
The Revolutionary Guards appear to be driving escalation from inside Tehran, even as reports suggest political tension within the Iranian regime. According to the report, Iran’s president was furious over attacks in Hormuz, the UAE, and Oman that were carried out without the government’s knowledge. At the same time, new American intelligence assessments warn that Iran could still reach a nuclear weapon timeline of around nine months to one year.
The IDF remains on heightened alert for both strikes and incoming attacks. Israel is watching the Gulf closely, understanding that any American action against Iran could trigger a response toward Israel, Hezbollah in Lebanon, militias in Iraq, the Houthis in Yemen, or other regional targets.
Trump is trying to keep the door open to a deal while warning Iran that attacks on American vessels could bring a devastating response. Meanwhile, talks with Lebanon are continuing, but Israeli officials believe Hezbollah and Iran are trying to use every front—Hormuz, Lebanon, Gaza, and the Gulf—to buy time and pressure Israel and the United States.
